Chemical Peels
Chemical peels use a controlled acid solution — such as glycolic, salicylic, lactic or trichloroacetic acid, chosen for your concern and skin type — to remove the outermost layers of dull or damaged skin cells, encouraging fresher skin to grow beneath. Peel strength ranges from light, causing minimal visible peeling and requiring little downtime, to medium-depth, which is more effective for pigmentation and texture but involves some visible flaking over several days as skin renews. Peels commonly address uneven pigmentation, rough texture, dullness and mild acne scarring, with the acid and concentration selected based on an assessment of your skin type and sensitivity. Because peeled skin is more sensitive to UV exposure, strict sun protection is required afterward. A course of sessions, spaced a few weeks apart, is generally recommended for cumulative improvement rather than a single peel alone.
